PACKING TIPS

Q: Why Use Camp Trunk Delivery (CTD)                                                      Back To Top

A: Camp's goal is to provide the simplest, most cost effective way to get your camper’s baggage from your home to Camp and back again. All you need to do is pack – CTD will do the rest. CTD has been in the delivery business for over 30 years, and knows how to get your camp stuff where it needs to be.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: The new online registration system makes it easy. Look for the link on our website or click here to go to CTD’s website. If you want to do it the paper way, print off the form, fill it out and mail or fax it back to CTD.

Q: Will I receive enrollment confirmation?
A: Yes. Once you sign up, CTD will email your confirmation.

Q: If you have GPS, why do you need such specific directions?
A: Personal directions are always good backup for the drivers and navigators. If your address is not readily found by GPS programs, please direct CTD from the nearest main road or cross street.

Q: Can you handle big duffel bags?
A: CTD can handle most camp duffle bags and soft trunks.  Duffle bags longer than 42 inches are not recommended and any soft trunk larger than 36x14x24 inches is not recommended. We ask that you seriously consider the recommendation when purchasing new luggage for your child. Please remember that hard trunks are not permitted in Camp Ramah in the Berkshires.

Q: How about heavy bags?                                                                         Back To Top
A: Please bear in mind that drivers and camp counselors will be hoisting your bags and trunks after you pack them. We don’t want them to get hurt. For their sake, please don’t ever pack water. Or sand, which weighs almost as much.

Q: Must we label each bag?
A: CTD will be sending out baggage tags once registration is completed. The drivers carry extra tags and will tag bags, but it’s always a good idea to attach your own permanent luggage tag or other form of identification on the baggage.

Q: Why is there a late enrollment penalty?
A: CTD needs enough lead-time to plan efficient pickup routes. They’re limited by truck capacity, so they can only guarantee service if you register before the enrollment deadline.

Q: Can we send water?
A: No. No. No.

Q: What about sleeping bags?
A: The best way to send sleeping bags -– and avoid the additional $35 round trip or $20 one-way charge for a third bag– is to pack them inside duffel bags. Please don’t ever tie sleeping bags to other baggage – they get torn off and separated.

Q: What about plastic drawers?                                                                 Back To Top
A: Sure, as long as they are packed inside stiff shipping boxes. Remember, though, that those drawers aren’t made for travel. Plastic cracks easily, and can’t support weight.

Q: What if we have more baggage than we thought we'd have?
A: Call or email CTD -- not Camp -- as soon as you know. They will try to accommodate you.

Q: Will you give us an exact pickup date & time?

A: CTD will email you with a specific pickup date and an estimated time in early June. You’ll receive an email with return dates a week before the end of Camp. This info will be up on CTD’s website, as well.

Q: Can we change our pickup date and/or time?
A: Managing truck capacities and routes makes it hard for CTD to change the date or time of pickup. They try very hard to stay on track and be on time, so they ask that you respect their schedule.

Q: Where should I leave everything? What if we can't be home for pickup?
A: Feel free to leave it anywhere accessible to CTD, like on a front or back porch. If the baggage isn’t in clear view, please leave a note on the front door letting CTD know exactly where to find it. You can use a locked garage (call CTD with entry code), a neighbor, or another camper in your area.

Q: How will we know that you picked up our baggage?                             Back To Top
A: CTD will leave a notice letting you know the date and time they were at your home and how many pieces were picked up.

Q: What if CTD picked up baggage at my neighbor's house an hour ago, but our bags are still here?
A: CTD may have several trucks covering the same area. Depending on how many campers live where you do, you and your neighbor may not be on the same truck route.

Q: What if it rains on pick up day?
A: Try to leave baggage where it won’t get soaked. If you need to leave it outside, please cover it with a tarp or other protection.

Q:You told us you would be here today, but it is 9PM and you have not arrived!
A: Despite CTD’s best efforts, weather, traffic, and problems with directions can hold them up. The drivers try to call you with updates if they anticipate delays. CTD does all they can to keep on schedule.

Q: When will the baggage arrive at Camp?
A: CTD will deliver baggage before Camp starts directly to your camper's bunk.

Q: The enrollment deadline has passed, but my child needs baggage service home from Camp. Or, if we've missed the deadline but our camper is attending the second session. Must we pay the penalty?
A: In either case no. The Enrollment Penalty is to encourage people to register early for June pickups, so CTD can begin route planning. If you have a second session camper or only want the bags delivered home at the end of Camp you will not be penalized. Please register 14 days before you need CTD.

Q: What if we have a different return address?
A: As soon as you know, please update it in the system and give CTD a call.

PACKING TIPS                                                                                           Back To Top
 - Pack toiletries in large, freezer quality zip lock bags. Prop them upright inside luggage. Even if they leak, they don’t drip on everything else.
- Electronics (CD and DVD players, radios, etc.) can be fragile. They are best brought to camp in backpacks, rather than sent ahead. Ditto for tennis racquets.
- Don’t tie anything onto the outside of a duffle bag or trunk. It is too easily separated, lost or broken.
